Coach Pellegrino Matarazzo spoke with the Icelandic striker Orri Óskarsson after Real Sociedad’s 1-0 loss to Real Betis on 26 August 2026. Matarazzo told him to keep his head up and continue, as the next match will offer similar opportunities.
Post-match conversation
After the game, Matarazzo approached Óskarsson in the break area. The coach explained that the player is a forward who, like everyone, has days without scoring and days with more success. “It wasn’t something to dwell on; I simply told him to lift his head, to keep going, that the next match will have the same chances and he will likely score again,” he said.
Key moments for Óskarsson
Óskarsson created the two most clear one-on-ones for Real Sociedad at La Cartuja, and also hit the post with a shot at Luka Sucic. In the first half, after a great move, he positioned himself alone in front of Valles but failed to poke the ball; in the second half, Oyarzabal set him up for a shot that the Sevilla keeper saved.
The coach’s remarks
Earlier, Matarazzo had already commented on the team’s lack of precision. “I think we competed today. We didn’t deserve to lose the match by how we were playing. That moment with Óskarsson… there are always things to improve,” he said. He added that, although the team controlled well in the first part, “we may have lost too many balls and didn’t have as many chances as we wanted,” but that “we shouldn’t have lost.”
