Real Sociedad discusses Rafael Obrador transfer after Algarve meeting
Real Sociedad is considering a move for left-back Rafael Obrador, according to Rádio MARCA Donostia. The Basque club, currently 17th in La Liga with 0 points, met with Benfica officials in the Algarve to discuss a potential transfer.
What happened at the meeting?
Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay and sporting director Erik Bretos met with Benfica chiefs Rui Costa and Mário Branco during the Portuguese team’s trip to the Algarve. Benfica played friendlies against Flamengo and Villarreal, using the opportunity to advance market negotiations.
Why is Obrador leaving Benfica?
Manager Marco Silva does not have Obrador in his plans, and the player has made only one official appearance for the first team since joining. Currently, he remains with the B team while his future is resolved. With several clubs interested, the coming days could be decisive for his career.
Which other clubs are interested?
In addition to Real Sociedad, Deportivo La Coruña has also shown interest in the left-back. The Galician club, which had Obrador in the 2024/25 season, is looking to strengthen its defense and would welcome his return.
Real Sociedad, who have yet to score this season (0 goals for, 0 against), are preparing for their next match at home against Elche on February 28, 2027, when their opponents will be 5th in the table.
